Feathers Add Action

Guy Eaker, Sr.

To make a top water bait more effective, I will often add feathered hooks to my lure.  Some fisherman think this is on effective for stripers, but I've found that bass love a lure with feathers.  By spreading the feathers out away from the hook, you can realize more action.

But perhaps the best tip about feathers is, don't limit their use to topwater lures alone.  Try adding feathered hooks to a crank bait to really give it great action.  Try to closely match the size of hook replaced, in order not to alter the action of the bait.  On a jigging spoon, the addition of a feathered hook can make it an even more productive lure.
